BCOAG Membership Committee


The role of the BCOAG Membership Committee is to manage the process of selecting new voting members on an annual basis. As such, the BCOAG committee pursue this endeavor by soliciting for voting membership, screening and reviewing the application documents and providing recommendations to the BCOAG Executive Board. Once the final selections are determined, the committee prepares the necessary documentation for submission to the U.S. Surgeon General for approval and appointment. The committee also performs other duties as assigned by the BCOAG Chair or Vice Chair.


Membership Committee Goals and Objectives


BCOAG Membership Committee Goals for 2012:

1.      To continue to increase BCOAG membership with outstanding dedicated officers
2.      To update and publish the BCOAG Networking Spreadsheet semi-annually (April, October) to facilitate collaboration among members
3.      To ensure that deserving voting members are nominated and receive the Special Assignment Award for their tireless service to improve BCOAG

Tasks of the Committee:


1)      For selection of new voting members, Committee must review and edit prior year’s application questions and review tool, solicit applications, review applications and make final recommendations. After the Executive Committee approves nominees for voting membership, Committee must notify officers and seek final approval from OPDIV Liaisons and the Office of Surgeon General.
2)      BCOAG Networking Spreadsheet- Committee selects an officer to manage the database and to routinely request that officers submit their contact information to maintain accurate records.
3)      Special Assignment Award – Upon receipt of official appointment letters and activity logs from eligible voting members, Committee must review information for accuracy, compile an awards  packet, and submit final packet to the Office of the Surgeon General for final review and approval.

 

Membership Information


BCOAG members:

  • Provide guidance and assist Public Health Service (PHS) recruiter of qualified African American applicants to the respective professional disciplines.
  • Develop operational plan which details BCOAG's participation and involvement in PHS, other governmental agencies, and community activities which further the mission of BCOAG and the USPHS.
